- Michael Cohen said Trump was likely looking for a scapegoat for possible criminal charges.
- Calling Trump “Captain Chaos”, Cohen speculated that this scapegoat could be Rudy Giuliani.
- “They’re going to throw him under the bus to Mar-a-Lago,” Cohen told CNN host Don Lemon.
Michael Cohen, former personal attorney for former President Donald Trump, said he thinks Trump is likely trying to find a scapegoat for any possible criminal charges from the Mar-a-Lago investigation.
Talk to Don Lemon, CNN host On Monday, Cohen was asked what he thought Trump’s next steps would be given the Justice Department’s decision. investigation to find out whether Trump violated federal laws by keeping classified documents at his Florida residence.
“I think the next scapegoat will be Rudy ‘Collude-y’ Giuliani,” Cohen told Lemon.
“I think everyone likes a bargain, but Donald Trump really likes a bargain,” Cohen joked. “And I believe Rudy is like a BOGO – Buy one, get one half. They’re gonna throw him under the bus to Mar-a-Lago. And at the same time, they’re gonna throw him under the bus to Georgia.”
Giuliani is currently the target of criminal investigation in Georgia regarding the 2020 election. The judge handling the case insisted that Giuliani testify, suggesting he travel by train, or “Uber or whatever” if need be.
Lemon also asked Cohen if he thought Trump was veering off course and “flooding the area” to confuse the public.
Calling Trump “Captain Chaos,” Cohen said the former president’s usual tactic was to “throw as much as possible at the American public in order to confuse them.”
“He really believes that the American public has like two days — maybe, if you’re smart, a three-day window to remember what’s going on,” he added.
Cohen said, however, that Trump was probably feeling a bit of fear too.
“He is afraid of the documents that they have and control now because they are documentary evidence,” Cohen said. “That’s evidence they can use against him.”
After the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago last week, Cohen publicly gloated about how Trump was finally be “held accountable”. He has since speculated that the possible informant in the ranks of Trump who informed the FBI of the Mar-a-Lago documents could be one of the former president’s children or his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Representatives for Giuliani and staff at Trump’s post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.
