In his final year of competition at the Delaware County Junior Fair, Dublin Jerome High School senior Brady Sestili’s pen of 3 fryers helped him go out a winner as he was awarded the Champion Pen of 3 Market Rabbits title.
Sestili said he has been doing 4-H and showing rabbits in a variety of categories for about nine years along with his older sister. However, Sestili said since his sister aged out last year, he was all alone this year and was anxious heading into the pen of 3 fryers competition on Monday.
“I was nervous but we knew we had some good rabbits. I didn’t know if there were any other rabbits in the barn better than mine, and (I guess I) was right,” Sestili said.
He added winning the competition’s grand prize was an “amazing” experience.
“It’s always a blessing to get grand champion in anything, ever since my first year in 4-H,” Sestili said. “It makes you really happy just to be at the fair, coming out at the fair, doing what you wanted to do. It’s the best feeling in the world.”
Sestili said this will be his last year competing at the fair because he plans to play college football next year and will not be able to raise rabbits or attend the fair.
“I think I’m going to call it here,” Sestili said. “I’m going to be playing football in college, so I will not be home to be able to show anything. This year is kind of like going out with a bang. It feels amazing. Every year you try and do the same thing. It’s really pleasing and makes me feel good. It builds my family up knowing that we’re going out as winners.”
Not be able to attend the fair while he is away at college won’t be easy for Sestili, considering all the memories the fair has provided over the years.
“There’s a lot I’m going to miss about the fair next year,” he said. “I’m going to miss staying in our camper, hanging out with friends, showing rabbits and going to the auction.”
Sestili said Thursday he is still undecided as to which college he will attend next fall.
