The incident happened between Lincoln and Newark Castle and is affecting services on the route through Nottingham.

East Midlands Railway said in a statement: “We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Lincoln and Newark Castle and is disrupting our trains on the Leicester / Nottingham / Lincoln / Grimsby and Newark North Gate / Lincoln routes.

“At present emergency services are en-route to manage the incident. We do not currently know when they are due to arrive.

“Trains running through the area in both directions cannot run.
