Mansfield pensioner hospitalised by intruder in ‘nasty’ attack


An elderly Mansfield man was attacked in his own home by an intruder during a burglary. The pensioner was taken to hospital with facial and leg injuries after the assault at his address off Bellamy Road at 6.10am on Saturday (May 21).

The attacker was said to have also stolen the victim’s mobile phone and wallet. The man’s injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

Later that day police arrested a 25-year-old man at an address in Mansfield on suspicion of aggravated burglary. He remains in custody. Detective Sergeant Lauren Morgan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a nasty incident in which a man was assaulted in his own home by an intruder.

“Thankfully incidents like this are incredibly rare and enquiries are ongoing. I am pleased that as a result of a lot of hard work and a great team effort, involving several police departments, we managed to quickly locate and arrest a suspect. Our investigation is ongoing.”
