Coroner identifies cyclists killed in crash on US-95 outside of Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Clark County coroner’s office released the names and causes of deaths for the five bicyclists who were killed on US-95 outside of Boulder City on Thursday.

The county confirmed the following names:

  • Erin Michelle Ray, 39-year-old female, of Las Vegas. Cause of death is blunt force injuries of head and chest. Manner accident.
  • Michael Todd Murray, 57-year-old male, of Las Vegas. Cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries. Manner accident.
  • Aksoy Ahmet, 48-year-old male, of Las Vegas. Cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries. Manner accident.
  • Thomas Chamberlin Trauger, 57-year-old male, of Las Vegas. Cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries. Manner accident.
  • Gerrard Suarez Nieva, 41-year-old male, of Las Vegas. Cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries. Manner accident.

The group was on a routine bike ride Thursday morning before a box truck crashed into the group of bicyclists on the US-95 near Mile Marker 38 and south of Boulder City.

Five of the bicyclists were killed with three others also injured. The Nevada Highway Patrol said the driver of the truck was cooperating and was also taken to the hospital.

“It’s a horrific tragedy when you have a beautiful sunny day like this, and we just lost the lives of five people,” Trooper Travis Smaka said.

Investigators say they don’t believe the commercial truck driver was impaired but the incident remains under investigation by authorities that include the NTSB.
