MITCHELL — A fast start sent James Valley Christian past Mitchell Christian for a 52-27 in a girls basketball game on Tuesday night.
The Vikings led 22-3 after the first quarter and 37-10 at the halftime break in the game, which was Mitchell Christian’s home season finale. Kanlyn Wieting had 14 points for JVC, while Brenna Weld ahd 12 points in the win. Weld, a senior, surpassed 1,000 career points with a third-quarter basket. Alexa Goertz added eight points for JVC, which scored 21 of its 23 field goals from inside the 3-point arc.

Mitchell Christian was led by a game-high 15 points from Audrey Hofer, who scored 12 of her points in the second half. Rebekah Strong had five points for MCS, which made nine field goals in the game and was 7-for-15 on free throws in the loss.
Mitchell Christian (2-15) closes out the regular season on Feb. 17 at Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in Forestburg. JVC (11-6), which has now won five games in a row and seven of its last eight, plays at Arlington on Feb. 10.

Three-pointers help James Valley Christian boys take down Mitchell Christian
MITCHELL — Four players scored in double-figures on Tuesday night for James Valley Christian, which made 12 3-pointers and earned a 76-57 road win Tuesday over Mitchell Christian in boys basketball action.
The Golden Eagles did not have an answer for JVC’s Landon Wallman, who had six 3-pointers and finished with 28 points. Huntley Steele had 14 points, powered by four 3-pointers, Landon Wager had 12 points and Isaac Korell had 11 points for the Vikings, which scored at least 18 points in each quarter.
“Defensively, we were a step slow tonight. As we head into the final push of the season, we need to continue to improve on that end of the floor,” Mitchell Christian coach Jesse Tolsma said. “Offensively, we did a nice job of being aggressive and attacking the rim. We will need to keep building on that end as we push towards the playoff season.”

Micah Frey had 24 points and nine rebounds on 8-for-14 shooting for the Golden Eagles, with teammate Aiden Lieber logging 22 points and six steals in the game. Jason Baas, Braedon Nebelsick and Anders Enga each had three points, with two from Joseph Tegethoff. Enga finished with eight rebounds for MCS, which finished the game shooting nearly 47% from the field but was 4-for-15 on 3-pointers and 9-for-19 on free throws.
Mitchell Christian (7-12) closes the regular season on Feb. 17 at Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in Forestburg. JVC (8-9) plays at Arlington on Feb. 10.
