Austin Butler would like to thank… Vanessa Hudgens.
ICYMI, the 31-year-old actor sat down with The Hollywood Reporter Cast Panel this month, where he recalled the time when “a friend” basically showed him playing Elvis Presley after hearing him sing a Christmas song by the iconic musician. However, it wasn’t just a buddy who put the in-universe role for him. It was his former longtime girlfriend, Vanessa. She even told the same story about how Austin got the role Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2019.

So naturally, many social media users were scratching their heads and wondering why Austin had tried to delete the actress from the story, especially since people had heard it before. Some even criticized him for don’t give vanessa creditsince the film was a huge success for him, even earning him his first Golden Globe price and Oscar nomination. But it seems Carrie’s notebooks star saw the error in his ways and ultimately gave credit where credit is due.
In an interview with The Los Angeles Times released on Tuesday, Austin confessed that Vanessa was the person who encouraged him to come out for the role in Baz Luhrmannthe film Elvis. He said:
“I was with my partner at the time. We were together for so long and she had this kind of moment of insight and so I really owe her, I owe her a lot for believing in me.
In the lyrics of Lizzo, it was time ! LOLz! Vanessa did not respond to her ex-boyfriend’s latest remarks. However, she was not afraid of cast some shade on it – so we’ll see if she takes a moment to react soon!
