Barack and Michelle Obama support Netflix Doc ‘Descendant’ with surprise appearance at Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival 2022

Barack and michelle obama stop at 2022 Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (MVAAFF) on Friday, August 5 in Edgartown, Massachusetts.

The former president and first lady made a surprise appearance to support the opening night screening of the new Netflix documentary Descendingwhich comes from the duo’s production company Higher Ground.

According to a summary of Variety, the film “follows the members of Africatown, a small community in Alabama, as they share their personal stories and the history of their community as descendants of the Clotilda, the last known ship carrying slavery in the United States. The ship arrived in America 40 years after the African slave trade became a capital crime. It was quickly burnt down and its existence denied, but after a century shrouded in secrecy and speculation, the descendants of Clotilda’s survivors claim their story.

Michelle and Barack were joined at the event by producers Kyle Martin, Essie Roomsdr. Kern Jackson and quest loveas well as director Daisy Brown.
