Everything is definitely not calm on the western front—and Josh Brolin says there is nothing wrong with that.
Oscar nominee stars as Royal Abbott on Prime Video’s Outdoor beach, a sci-fi western about a rancher who fights for his land and his family after uncovering a mystery on the edge of the Wyoming wilderness. The series drew predictable comparisons to Paramount + Yellowstonethe history of the Dutton family with Kevin Costner who has audience records broken and breathed new life into the Western genre.
Brolin, who previously starred in 2010s western The real courageargued Outdoor beach only adds new layers to the modern western.
“Yellowstone was the first – as we were with The real courage– bringing back the western, and that’s a good thing,” he said. Told Variety June 21st. “If you piggyback on this trend, you feel like you’re piggybacking. But if you come up with something like that that’s totally original, then you feel good.”
Plus, just because the shows sometimes share a similar aesthetic doesn’t mean there isn’t room at the table for both. As Brolin argued, “There’s nothing but horses and cowboy hats and maybe warring families in Outdoor beach it reminds me Yellowstone.”
