UPDATE, January 24: The search continues for Julien Sands12 days after the actor disappeared.
“The Sheriff’s Department is approaching the second full week of the search for missing hiker, Julian Sands. Extensive ground and air search efforts have taken place,” reads the statement of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. “At this time, Mr Sands has not been found and no evidence of his current location has been uncovered. The search will continue, weather and ground conditions permitting.
Sands’ car was found in the Baldy Bowl in the San Gabriel Mountains, but the actor was not seen.
PREVIOUSLY, January 23: Julian Sands disappeared 10 days ago and search and rescue teams continued their efforts around Mount Baldy in California in the San Gabriel Mountains. As the search continues, the actor’s family salutes the “heroic” work of the authorities.
“Our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department coordinating the search for our beloved Julian, including the heroic search teams listed below who brave harsh conditions on the ground and in the air to bring back Julian at home,” read the statement shared by the San Bernardino County Sheriff.
Sands’ family statement was prefaced by the SBCSD who wrote: “As we enter day 11 of Julian Sands’ search for Mount Baldy, we are reminded of the sheer determination and selflessness of everyone who contributed to this research. We will continue to use the resources we have.”
Sands was reported missing on Friday, January 13. The SBCSD reported that they were searching the Mount Baldy area as his phone ping showed the actor heading in that direction. Although they tried again to ping the phone, further attempts failed, most likely “due to no cell service or cell phone power outage”.
Authorities’ previous update on January 20 said the helicopter search would continue but “there is no set time or duration for the search”.
Sands is best known for his role in A room with a view where he starred alongside Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis and Helena Bonham Carter, to name a few.
