Meghan Markle has been in the news a lot lately, but for once she’s not the prime target of the British tabloid press.
Instead, that dubious honor belongs to Prince Harry, whose controversial memory, Sparemade him the punching bag of the month.
Of course, the hatred of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex predates Harry’s literary debut by several years.
In fact, this is the second time in as many months that the press has attacked these two for the crime of telling their story to the world.

These days it seems pretty bland in comparison, but in December, Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series made headlines all the time.
Now the project’s director, Liz Garbus, is speaking out about the various ways the Royal Family have tried to hinder its progress and undermine the Sussexes’ credibility.

“For example, Buckingham Palace said we didn’t ask for comment. [on the docuseries] when we did,’ garbus said vanity lounge this week.
“They did this to discredit us…and by discrediting us, they can discredit the content of the show.”
Garbus says that, like many who only knew Harry and Meghan from afar, once she got to know the couple she was alarmed at the extent to which the Royal Family interfered in their daily lives.

“We had some of those moments that felt a bit like Alice through the looking glass“recalls the filmmaker.
Despite this interference, Garbus followed the rules and attempted to contact the royal family to seek their cooperation with the project.
When they didn’t return her calls, she had no choice but to follow up with the doctor and acknowledge their silence within the first few minutes.

And so, a title card in the first episode reads, “Members of the Royal Family declined to comment on the content of the series.”
Whether Spare is Harry’s project, so maybe Meghan was the driving force behind the Netflix series.
Perhaps that’s why he uses such a soft and conciliatory tone – it’s the work of a woman who seeks to mend barriers.

Of course, as the past few weeks have made clear, the Royal Family seems to have no interest in indulging the Sussexes.
In a recent 60 minutes interview, Harry confirmed he was not on good terms with his father and brother.
And unfortunately, it looks like that will continue to be the case for some time.
