President Joe Biden ensures that those who have committed fraud under programs that have been launched to provide relief to businesses during the pandemic face the consequences of their actions.

According CNNOn Friday, Biden signed two bipartisan bills that will seek to hold people accountable for committing fraud through the Paycheck Protection Program or the Covid-19 Economic Disaster Loan Program. Both laws will extend the time prosecutors have to prosecute people who have committed fraud under these programs.

At the signing event for the two bills, Biden said it was “critical to extend the statute of limitations for certain pandemic frauds … to 10 years to ensure that fraudsters cannot run out of time” .

Biden continued to share a message for those who have committed fraud and said:

“My message to these cheaters is this: you can’t hide. We’re going to find you. We’re going to get you back for what you stole and hold you accountable under the law.

Biden also shared that the Trump administration failed to ensure relief from the programs went to the right companies.

“Not only did the Trump administration leave the biggest corporations with the teams of lawyers and accountants on the front line, but my predecessor undermined the watchdogs who were supposed to be at work to make sure the relief goes to the people. parent and pop companies that were supposed to happen in the first place,” he said.
