A TikTok therapist who begged black men for therapy has been fired from her job.
The therapist, Shabree Rawls, gone viral after posting a TikTok video urging black men to seek therapy and expand their “emotional vocabulary”.
In the video, Rawls uses tough love to inspire black men to seek help. Rawls specifically addressed young black men who were raised in single-parent families.
Rawls Told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution she had no idea that her video would cost her her job.
You may not have liked her delivery. And she shouldn’t call women bitches.
But I don’t know how you all twisted that to say “she complains about black male customers”…. She is clearly telling black men to go to therapy and stop keeping shit up when the world is already so hard on you. https://t.co/lPivmOjI1s

“I can’t pretend to you, I sobbed about it,” she told the AJC. “It hurt a lot…it seemed like a lot of decisions were made at my expense and it happens to a lot of black women.”
Rawls’ video was in response to an article posted on psychology today‘s titled “The Rise of Lonely, Single Men”.
“My intention was…to go to therapy. There’s no hidden intention or ulterior motive,” she said.
Rawls was unprepared for the backlash, which came mostly from black men. Rawls said about 90% of his patients are black men.
“For my first love, which is the black man, to attack me – it felt like I had been whiplashed from both sides. As a black woman, I hold them close to my heart. It’s who we are. Being attacked by a black man hurts even more. I’ve dedicated my life to healing our community, but at the same time, I’m being attacked by the same faces.
Rawls is looking for another job. In the meantime, she’s starting a podcast to reach a wider audience of black men.
“A podcast is coming,” she told the AJC. “I realize that maybe I’m not supposed to heal one-on-one, I’m supposed to heal larger numbers.”
