The Virginia teacher that a shot 6-year-old student is suing the school district after sufficient evidence tipped off faculty that the boy might have had a gun.
Diana Toscanothe lawyer of Abigail Zwernerannounced on Wednesday that “worried teachers and staff warned administrators three times that the boy had a gun on him and was threatening other students, ‘but the administration couldn’t be bothered’.”
The boy shot the 25-year-old during class with a gun belonging to his mother at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Va., Jan. 6.
“Our hearts go out to our son’s teacher and we pray for her recovery following such an unimaginable tragedy as she selflessly served our son and the children of the school,” the family said. of the child.
And the family added the boy suffered from an ‘acute disability’ and was under a new care plan which required his parents to attend a class with him every day. According to the family statement, the week of the shooting was the first time the parents were not present.
Police Chief Steve Drew called the shooting “intentional” as the 6-year-old took aim at Zwerner and fired a bullet. Zwerner was in critical condition in hospital for two weeks. She is currently recovering at home.
