Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a member of the coordinating staff for the treatment of prisoners of war, announced this on the air. information telethonanswering the presenter’s question, what the Russian Federation is counting on, trying to falsify the events in Olenivka.

“Actually, from the beginning of this terrible tragedy and the terrible farce that we saw from the Russian side, it was a falsification. From the first reports about the use and deliberate firing of HIMARS high-precision weapons, it was a special operation against the supply of Western high-precision weapons to Ukraine. It was a special operation with the aim of destabilizing Ukrainian society and demoralizing Ukrainian prisoners of war. It was a falsification from the very beginning, but the world quickly exposes such things,” Yusov stressed.

A representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine told how the terrorist attack in Olenivka affected the negotiations with Russia regarding the exchange of prisoners.

“Rather, it made the negotiations more difficult, it is clear that they were already difficult, in particular because some in Russia believe that they can dictate the terms – this is not the case,” Yusov emphasized.

He added that negotiations regarding the exchange of prisoners of war and regarding other forms and formats of the return of Ukrainian defenders are ongoing – the work does not stop.

“It’s another matter that after the terrorist attack and the mass murders of Ukrainian prisoners, they took on a different character. We have added such tasks as obtaining a verifiable verified list of victims, dead and wounded, returning the bodies of Ukrainian defenders home, conducting an independent investigation, and demanding the admission of the Red Cross to Olenivka and much more,” explained Yusov.

As UNIAN reported, on the night of July 29, an explosion rang out on the territory of the former correctional colony in Olenivka, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region. As a result, the building in which Ukrainian prisoners of war who were taken out of the Azovstal plant were kept was destroyed.

Immediately after the explosion, Russia accused the Armed Forces of shelling the penal colony. Also, the human rights representative of the Verkhovna Rada reported that Russia is ready to return the bodies of Ukrainian prisoners of war killed in Olenivka, but after end of “investigation”but how much time the occupiers will need for the “investigation” is not known.
